W FLORENCE – FLORENCE

The new W Florence overlooking the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella represents a compelling dialogue between past and contemporary design. The building, originally designed in 1968 by the renowned Florentine architect Lando Bartoli and formerly home to the Grand Hotel Majestic, has been reborn with a completely renewed identity, where design becomes a narrative language.

The 119 rooms — including 16 suites and a Penthouse — reflect an aesthetic that blends Seventies inspirations, vintage modern elements, and industrial references, creating spaces that are both dynamic and refined. Velvet textures, rigorous geometric forms, and pop accents establish a visual balance that is never static, but constantly interacts with light.

Lighting plays a key role in the restoration project: a discreet yet essential presence. It does not simply illuminate, but shapes the spaces, highlights textures and materials, and helps define the atmosphere of each environment. In contemporary settings like this, it becomes a true design tool, capable of enhancing the guest experience and transforming architectural perception throughout the day.

In a hotel like this, light is therefore an integral part of the narrative: it enhances the building’s heritage while projecting its identity toward a modern, international aesthetic.
